Statue of the Blessed Mother dedicated to former teacher…

We thank Marie Camille Bemkey, formerly Sr. M. Euphemia, SSND, former Principal (1957-1960) at the Mulberry Street location of Cathedral for donating a Our Lady of Grace statue on behalf of Sr. Mary Grace Sullivan. The statue will be placed in the school circle in her honor. Our donor, Marie Bemkey, loves to hear from her former Cathedral students! She now resides at Charlestown in Catonsville, Md. She would be delighted to have a visit from you!

The plaque reads… In Loving Memory of Sister Mary Grace Sullivan, SSND Teacher at Cathedral School from (1896-1952) from her grateful School Sisters of Notre Dame

Archbishop Edwin O'Brien Visits Our School!

On March 3rd, the School of the Cathedral was pleased to have Archbishop Edwin O’Brien for a formal visit. Students, faculty, staff and parents gathered in the gym to welcome His Excellency. They shared the school’s rich heritage and its founding stories in 1871 on Mulberry Street and in 1960 on Charles Street.

Afterwards, the Archbishop was given a tour of the school and concluded his visit by blessing the “NEW” school sign. The School of the Cathedral proudly celebrates 140 years of Catholic Education.

Welcome to our newest alumni

Cathedral School days on Mulberry Street…..

Sent from Edward Shipley ‘47

Ed shares, “Sisters Aloysius and Grace, and myself, wearing glasses and standing to the right and behind Sister Grace.  I am at a loss to identify any of the other students in the picture. All of those in the picture may not be from the class of 1947 - I seem to be one of the taller students, and that does not match my recollection of my height compared to others in the class. Neither am I sure of the event that occasioned the taking of this picture; it may have been something like Sister Grace's 50th anniversary as a teacher. I would be happy for what ever information about the picture you can supply.”

Best regards,

Ed Shipley ‘47

I
f you know who else is in this picture from the old school on Mulberry Street, please email the development office, mmiller@cmoq.org , Mary Miller 410-464-4014.

We would love to hear from you!

Greetings from the Office of Development!

The Development Office celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, as it was established in 1991 to provide a vehicle for development and future planning. The goal of this office is to develop a "meaningful involvement" of people in our school's mission and vision for the future, which is to nurture and challenge our students in every way.

Our office publishes The Report Card, which is the school/alumni newsletter, 3 times a year.  The Report Card is also online, click here for the issues available. We handle any alumni activities and reunions. We held the 50th Anniversary Bull & Oyster Roast on October 9, 2010. We welcomed many Cathedral parents, alumni, parishioners, and friends at this wonderful event!

The 8th Annual Cathedral Open will be held at the Elkridge Club on September 16, 2011. Proceeds go to the School of the Cathedral Endowment Fund. We give special thanks to the McGeady Family, school parents (Mike and Emily) and their family who are parishioners, as our Major Sponsor. Please contact the Development Office for more information.

Each fall we have an Annual Fund Campaign for our school. The funds generated directly help our present school students in many ways.  We are pleased to share that we raised over $64,000 in our 2010-2011 campaign due to parent, alumni, and student support. Funds raised supported the new turf field and tuition assistance. Please contact the Development Office if you are able to make a gift. This year, our 2011-2012 Annual Fund will support overall operating expenses and enhance the academic experience. Our goal is $50,000 or more which will also go towards tuition assistance.

It is your support and involvement which enables the School of the Cathedral to thrive and uphold its high standard of education for young students of today and tomorrow. I hope you enjoy our website and encourage you to contact us if you have any questions!

Warm Regards,
Mary Suarez-Murias Miller '73

HISTORY OF THE OFFICE OF DEVELOPMENT - contact us

The Office of Development was established in 1991 in order to provide a vehicle for development and for future planning for the school. The office consists of a Director and an Assistant to the Director. There is also a Development Advisory Committee. Since its inception the Office has sponsored four "All-Class" and three "50+ Year" alumni reunions. It publishes a school/alumni newsletter (3 times a year) called The Report Card, maintains alumni relations, coordinates the Annual Fund Campaign, and recent Capital Campaign. The office manages the Planned Giving efforts for the school which provide income for the School Endowment Fund established through
the Catholic Family Foundation. Other activities include advertising and public relations, grant writing, monitoring Capital Maintenance gifts and maintaining its records. The office also oversees activities for the Middle School Committee and its Spirit Teams throughout the year. Several events that are sponsored through the office are the Cathedral Golf Open, Grandparents and Special Friends Day, Innisbrook Gift Wrap (code for Cathedral is 104481), and the Year-End Family Picnic in June. It continues to maintain a high profile for the school in the community through public relations and promotional efforts. All funds raised by the Office of Institutional Advancement directly benefit the school. The Development Office works closely with the parish to provide further enhancements for both the school and parish.

Some of Ginna's best friends are the ones she met at Cathedral and she is looking forward to reconnecting with old friends and schoolmates as well. Ginna says, "Cathedral is a very special place. I love the Catholic atmosphere, parental involvement, and the smiling, happy, and loving students, teachers, and parents you see whenever you are there."
