B. Admissions
Testing |
|
The Early Prevention of School Failure Program is administered to all students applying for admission to the Monsignor
Whelan Program and First Grade. The school reserves the right to determine appropriate placement for all students applying or presently enrolled in the program.
All prospective students for Grades 2 through 8 are administered a placement test. An interview with the Principal or Assistant Principal may be required.
The School of the Cathedral reserves the right to determine the student's correct grade placement or to deny the student acceptance for Grades MWP-8.
The waiting lists for all grades are dissolved in September of each
school year.
All new students are given a six-month to one-year evaluation period. If, during this time, the
school is unable to meet the needs of the student, the parents will be asked to place their child in a more appropriate school setting. Such recommendation will only occur after conferences with parents and after exhausting all other methods of help. |

C.
CAPITAL MAINTENANCE FUND |
|
Upon acceptance to the School of the Cathedral the family is required to make a one-time $1000 loan to the School to be used for the 10-year capital maintenance program that was initiated in the 1993-1994 school year. This may be a tax-deductible, nonrefundable gift or a refundable loan payable the September of the year after the last child leaves the School. The loan may be converted into a tax-deductible gift at any time. Upon receipt of the loan, the School will issue a refundable or tax-deductible certificate to the family. |

E. TUITION POLICY |
|
|
Students are enrolled for the entire academic year.
Full tuition payment is expected for the entire year even if a student withdraws from the school during the school year for any reason. Tuition bills are mailed in early January and June. Regular tuition payments are made in two installments - 50% by July 1 and 50% by February 1. The In-School Athletic Fee and Parents Association dues and book bills are payable on
July 1. Receipts will not be issued. The canceled check will be one's receipt. Any unpaid balance more than 30 days old will be subject to a late penalty equal to 5% of the payment.
If there are circumstances that prevent timely payment of the tuition, the Principal should be contacted immediately. An alternative schedule for payment may be arranged if sufficient need can be shown. The Principal may request additional information in order to make a final determination.
Any inquiries regarding the tuition bill should be directed to the billing office. Please contact Mrs. Jane Blusiewicz
at 410-464-4115 on Monday-Thursday, 8:15-3:00 p.m. Students are not entitled to begin classes unless all financial responsibilities are fulfilled. Any tuition or Capital Maintenance Fund balance outstanding at the end of the school year will be turned over to Alacrity Collection Corporation. Transcripts and/or diplomas may be withheld pending satisfaction of unpaid bills.
The School of the Cathedral has two categories of tuition rates:
| 1. |

A parishioner with no record of church contributions will be assessed at the non-parishioner rate per child at the next billing. |

G. ETHICAL
AND MORAL USE OF TECHNOLOGY POLICY |
|
|
An Internet
Acceptable Use Agreement statement is signed by all parents and
students annually before a student has access to school technology.
These internet use consent forms are
available online also. |
|
|
A copy of this statement is in the Appendix of the Handbook for your
referral. The document is given to each student by the computer
instructor. It is to be signed and returned to the instructor before
a student will be allowed access to school technology of any kind.
Violations of the Internet Acceptable Use Agreement are subject to
the school's Disciplinary Code, as noted in Section VI of this
Handbook.
The following is a summary of the AUP on technology ethics. In an academic environment, it is generally desirable for technology to support learning and to enhance instruction. In general, it is a policy that all technology be used in a responsible, efficient, ethical, and legal manner. Failure to adhere to the policy and guidelines described may result in the revocation of use privileges, and ordinary Disciplinary Code sanctions will apply as well. It is considered unethical to:
| 1. |
Use
profanity, obscenity, or language that may be offensive to
other users |
| 2. |
Forward
personal communication without the author’s prior consent |
| 3. |
Copy
commercial software in violation of copyright laws |
| 4. |
Use
technology inappropriately |
| 5. |
Modify
data not specifically assigned to or created by the modifier |
| 6. |
Destroy
data or property that is not owned by the destroyer |
| 7. |
Use
another person’s programs or data without their permission |
| 8. |
Abuse
or improperly use hardware or public software |
| 9. |
Commit
any act that is irresponsible or infringes upon the rights of
others |
The fundamental principle
behind the policy is: While using the technology, you should never do
anything that harms another user.
