Alert School is closed Wednesday 2/20.

Notes from the Principal's Desk: February 5, 2019

This weekend, as part of the strategic planning process, the School Board will conduct a retreat to review the data of the recent focus group sessions. The objective of this meeting is to determine three or four areas of focus upon which to develop the next strategic plan. As we look forward to the next three to five years in the life of the school, the strategic plan will be the vision document for the school to meet its mission as a Catholic parish school. After the retreat weekend, we anticipate releasing a survey to the wider community in order to gain feedback regarding the three or four focus areas developed by the School Board.

Looking forward to the week ahead, there is a Star and Stripes Service activity planned for Friday, February 8th. Monday, February 11th is a Chick-fil-A lunch day, followed a St. Valentine’s Day Tag day on Thursday, February 14th. Students may donate $1 and are permitted to wear red on this special day.

According to Catholic Online, "Saint Valentine, officially known as Saint Valentine of Rome, is a third-century Roman saint widely celebrated on February 14 and commonly associated with "courtly love." Although not much of St. Valentine's life is reliably known, and whether or not the stories involve two different saints by the same name is also not officially decided, it is highly agreed that St. Valentine was martyred and then buried on the Via Flaminia to the north of Rome."

Finally, we have received a preliminary draft calendar from the Department of Catholic Schools. Although only a draft at this time, I can share the following dates:

  • Start of School: September 3rd
  • Thanksgiving Break: November 27th-29th
  • Christmas Break: December 23rd -January 1st. Students report back on January 2nd.
  • Easter Break: April 6th - April 15th. Students report back on April 16th
  • 8th-grade graduation: June 5th
  • Last day of School for students: June 11th

I hope everyone has some time to enjoy this warm weather!

God Bless,
Michael
