Notes from the Principal's Desk: Gratitude, new survey, and important reminders

As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, I would like to thank all of those who have donated to the Thanksgiving Collection for the Immaculate Conception Parish on Mosher Street.  The collection comes to a close tomorrow, so if you have not had a chance to send in an item with your child, we encourage you to do so tomorrow.

Chris McCullough and I would like to thank everyone who attended our Courageous Conversations about Race event last night. We believe the evening was very impactful for those who came out for it.  We are hopeful it plants the seed of desire for further conversation. The evening was truly a gift for our community, one for which we are grateful.

On Monday, November 25th, we will have our school Liturgy followed by the school’sTurkey Trot!  On Monday, during the Liturgy, we will be celebrating Monsignor Woy’s 40th anniversary of priestly ministry, which is actually on November 30th.  We invite all parents and guardians who are able to attend the 8:15am Liturgy with the school.

Don’t forget! The School of the Cathedral will be participating in #GivingTuesday on December 3rd.  Any student whose parent makes a gift will receive an out-of-uniform pass to use on December 13 and will also be entered in a Mustang Market Swag Bag Contest! Thank you in advance for your support!

The Archdiocese of Baltimore Department of Catholic schools is beginning planning for its next strategic plan.  As part of the process, the Department of Catholic Schools is partnering with the Johns Hopkins Institute for Education Policy to analyze our school culture. Your insights constitute a vital component of this work.

The survey below is designed to explore how parents and guardians of the school community experience school culture. This information can support our efforts toward continuous improvement.

We understand that taking a survey is an imposition on your valuable time and appreciate your willingness to contribute to this work. The survey should take 15 to 20 minutes to complete. All responses are confidential and will only appear in the aggregate form. All parents and guardians are encouraged to complete the survey for each child enrolled in the school.

As an incentive, all parents who complete the survey will receive a dress down pass for their child on December 2nd.  Please print the thank you page in the survey, sign it, list the child’s name and homeroom and the student is permitted to dress down on Monday, December 2nd.

Thank you again for adding your voice to this project. Please complete the survey by the night of November 27th. Please click here to begin the parent survey for the AoB Department of Catholic Schools.

I’d like to share some news about Mr. Bush, our P.E. teacher and Athletic Director.  Mr. Bush has been diagnosed with early-stage prostate cancer and will be getting surgery on December 9th.  He will be out approximately 6 weeks and Mr. Meadows will be the substitute. Mr. Bush has shared that the prognosis for a positive outcome is very good and we will be looking forward to his return.  At this time, we do not foresee any disruption to his Athletic Director duties. Please keep Mr. Bush and his family in your prayers.

We are looking forward to the Student-Led Conferences next week.  A reminder that Monday is a half-day for students with dismissal at 11:50 AM.  Student-Led Conferences begin at 1 PM. CED will be in session. Tuesday, students are not in school unless they are participating in their Student-Led Conference at their scheduled time.

God Bless,
Michael Wright
