Notes from the Principal's Desk: Halloween fun, Coffee and Conversation with the Principal, and more

One of the best parts of my job as a Principal is to be able to share the good that happens at school every day.  On Tuesday, November 12th, we will hold our next Open House. Prospective families may learn more and RSVP here. This event is not just for potential new families, though, but it is also for our current families.  I invite all of our 5th grade parents to join us for this Open House to learn more about our Middle School and to meet our Middle School teachers. Current families may RSVP to Fiona Diemer.

In the coming months, I will be inviting our 5th, 4th, and 3rd grade parents to join me for “Coffee and Conversation with the Principal” to learn more about our Middle School program.  These small group meetings will allow time for informal conversation, a tour of the Middle School, the opportunity to meet some of our Middle School teachers, and a question and answer session with the Principal.  While we will be personally inviting parents to join us for these small group meetings, I want to encourage parents to reach out to Mrs. Diemer if you know one of the dates below fits your schedule better than another day.

Don't forget that flu shots are available today in the Parish Center from 3pm to 7pm! Here is an awesome video about the flu vaccine from one of our school parents,Dr. Rock, associate hospital epidemiologist at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and assistant professor of medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Tomorrow, those families who contributed to the Annual Fund this month will have an Out of Uniform pass for their students.  We have over 115 students who have received passes for the Out of Uniform day! If you haven’t yet contributed to the Annual Fund, I encourage you to make a gift today.  Not only to help support the operations and tuition assistance programs of the school, but to also give your child the gift of an Out of Uniform pass for the month of November.

Reminder - the Mustang Market is open on Fridays from 2pm to 3pm and is located in the gym foyer.  The market has a great new selection of spirit wear and you want to make sure you pick something up for the upcoming Spirit Wear Days. The first Spirit Wear Day is November 8! Also, there is currently an online sweatshirt sale - a perfect way to stock up from the comfort of your own home.

Next Thursday is Halloween, and we will have the annual Halloween parade in the school circle beginning at 8am.  Students should not wear masks, and we ask that costumes are not too scary so as to not frighten our younger students. Friday, November 1st we will have our school Liturgy in observance of All Saints Day at the 8:15am Mass. Parents are always welcome to join us. Friday is also a half-day with dismissal at 11:50am. CED is closed this day.

Finally, now that the temperatures have begun to get cooler, a reminder to have your child bring a coat to school each day.  The mornings are rather cool and the students will continue to have morning recess, weather permitting. Also, we recognize that some days are colder than others. In an effort to keep the students warm, we do permit our female students to wear Cathedral sweatpants under their jumpers or skirts to school and during recess, but we ask them to remove the sweatpants during classes.

Have a great weekend and God Bless!
