Notes from the Principal's Desk: Open House, Cardinal Cup, testing, and more

This week, the students have been doing a great job on standardized testing. Friday will be used to complete any make-up testing for students who were absent or missed a testing session. If needed, students will be able to complete testing Monday.

Monday also begins summer uniforms. Be sure to pull out those summer uniforms this weekend to make sure they still fit your child. If we find that shorts or shirts are too small, we will send a note home asking parents to provide the proper uniform for their child. The kids grow a lot over the winter, and shorts that fit in the fall may now be too short. Also, I ask that you continue to have your child bring a coat to school, as the mornings are still cool and students will need them when they go outside for morning recess.

Tomorrow night is CRS Meal Packing! Over 100 people (including many school families!) are signed up to pack 15,000 meals for Burkina Faso. Don't miss out on this awesome Lenten service project. Sign up here!

This weekend is the Cardinal Cup! The Cardinal Cup is a 5k run / 1-mile walk fundraiser in support of Mother Seton Academy, our sister school. Mother Seton Academy is a low tuition/no tuition school for promising middle school students in central Baltimore. This event is super fun and a great opportunity to spend time in fellowship with our own school families as well as the students and families from Mother Seton Academy who attend the race. Mrs. Purpura begins the warm-up at 8am on the steps of the Cathedral, and the race begins at 8:15am. I’d like to thank Mrs. Matteini and all of the parents, students, faculty, staff, and volunteers who have made the Cardinal Cup such a successful event over the past 25 years!

Cardinal Cup registration is closed online, but you can still preregister today (2pm to 3pm) and tomorrow (7:45am to 8:45am and 2pm to 3pm) in the gym lobby with cash/check. Walk-in registrations will also be accepted Saturday morning starting at 7:30am. Can't come to the race? Please consider sponsoring a Mother Seton Academy student's race registration for $30. Sponsorships include Cardinal Cup race t-shirts for your Cathedral students to wear for Friday's Cardinal Cup Out of Uniform Day!

On Monday, April 15th, we will have class pictures for grades K-7. Students should wear their summer uniform. We will begin calling classes for pictures at about 8:20am and are usually finished by about 9:15am. Each student received a class picture order envelope last week. Only students who have returned their picture envelope with payment will receive the class picture. Late orders cannot be accepted.

8th grade will have their pictures taken individually on April 30th and will “dress to impress.” Students may change into their summer uniform afterward. Grade 8 students also have their class picture taken at graduation. Every 8th grade student will receive a copy of the class photo via mail after graduation.

On Tuesday, April 16th, the school will host a Spring Open House from 8:30am to 11:30. Don’t forget -- School of the Cathedral has a referral program that can lower your tuition if the family you refer enrolls, so be sure to share the good news about Cathedral with your friends and family!

God Bless,
Michael Wright
