Notes from the Principal's Desk: upcoming exams, new Dress Down Day, casseroles, and more
I hope that everyone had a terrific Christmas break and found some time to recharge over the holiday. The faculty and staff are happy to be back with the students and begin the rest of the school year! While this is a short week, it is a good time to reconnect with the students before diving into a busy week next week.
Speaking of next week, here is a look ahead for what will be happening at school.
Next week, exam review sheets should be going home for students in 3rd through 8th grade. Exams will begin on Tuesday, January 21st and will wrap up on Friday, January 24th. We anticipate sharing the exam schedule next week.
On Monday, students in the lower school will begin Fountas and Pinnell assessments. These assessments are a critical part of measuring student progress and adapting instruction to meet the needs of the students.
Tuesday is Our Daily Bread casserole pick-up. After the holidays is a critical time of need for Our Daily Bread, and we ask each family to make one hot dog casserole, freeze it and bring it in on Tuesday morning during drop off. The recipe can be found here.
Tuesday is also our next 3rd and 4th grade Coffee and Conversation with the Principal. I invite all 3rd and 4th grade families to join me in hearing more about our Middle School, including a tour and Q&A. RSVP to Fiona Diemer at email@example.com. If you are interested in attending but cannot make Tuesday's session, other dates are listed here.
On Wednesday, the 5th and 8th grade will be hosting this month’s WednesdayAssembly. Wednesday is also the last day to sign up for the after school yoga program for students. Starting in January, students can meet in the church undercroft once a week for about an hour to for kid-appropriate yoga. No mat is required - just bring your breath and desire to practice! There will be three separate 6-session classes: Grades K-2, Grades 3-5 and Grades 6-8.
Grades K-2: Thursdays (1/9, 1/16, 1/23, 1/30, 2/6, 2/13)
Grades 3-8 (separate classes, but same day/time): Wednesdays (1/8, 1/15, 1/22, 2/5, 2/12, 2/19 – not offered during the week of exams)
The cost for the 6 session offering is $70 per child. Registration is first-come, first-serve and each session is limited to 20 students (across all grades in that session). Specific details will be emailed to those who are registered for the class. If you have more than one child, please complete the form once for each child. Sign up here! If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact Catherine Wahl at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thursday, January 9th we will have our weekly School Liturgy.
Friday, January 10th will be a Purple Dress Down Day so we may cheer on the Ravens! That Friday is also a half-day with dismissal at 11:50 AM. Faculty and staff will participate in a professional development activity Friday afternoon.
I hope everyone has a great rest of the week and weekend!
